It is a type of vegetable that grows mainly in tropical and subtropical countries, where it has long been used in natural medicine because of its significant health effects.

Because of its resemblance to a bumpy cucumber, but due to its often extremely bitter taste it is not very popular.

Today it is mainly cultivated in South America and Asia. It is part of traditional medicine, for example in Africa, India, China, but also in the southwestern states of the USA.

It is known by many names, such as bitter melon, bitter gourd or bitter pear. In Latin it is called Momordica charantia.

How does the melon help against cancer?

Frank Shallenberger specializes in rejuvenation therapies and natural medicine at the Nevada Center for Alternative Anti-Aging Medicine.

He discovered a way to use this vegetable to help patients who have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. According to Dr. Shallenberger, bitter melon effectively stops the growth of cancer cells.

He always recommends his patients trust nature and use natural substances that have the ability to stop cancer. According to his latest findings, even a 5% solution of bitter melon juice can defeat pancreatic cancer. The result achieved is also very encouraging.

It destroys 90 to 98% of cancer cells. And the immune system can easily deal with the remainder. The effects of this vegetable were also tested at the University of Colorado. The results showed a 64% reduction in the size of pancreatic tumors. This research only confirms the benefits that bitter melon offers in the treatment of diseases.

Besides cancer, it is also used for high blood pressure, asthma, skin infections, diabetes and stomach problems.

What bitter melon contains

Bitter melon has an unusually high content of nutrients and fiber, but few calories. It is particularly rich in vitamins B1, B2, B3, B9 (folic acid) and vitamin C. It also contains many minerals such as magnesium, manganese, zinc, iron and phosphorus.

It even has twice as much beta carotene (a precursor of vitamin A) as broccoli, twice as much potassium as bananas and twice as much calcium as spinach. Despite its extremely high nutrient content, it has unfortunately been forgotten in many areas because of its bitter taste.

Other health benefits of bitter melon
Besides the diseases already mentioned, bitter melons have much wider use in natural medicine.

How bitter melon can help?

1. Energy and vitality

Regular consumption of bitter melon or its juice increases energy, vitality and endurance in sports.

2. Pregnancy support

It is an excellent source of folic acid. Adequate intake of folic acid during pregnancy reduces the incidence of neural tube defects in newborns.

3. Lowers blood sugar levels

Bitter melon contains a high amount of polypeptide-P (a phytonutrient and plant insulin), which lowers blood sugar levels. It also contains a unique charantin component. It is known that this substance increases glycogen synthesis and the utilization of sugar in muscle, liver and adipose tissue.

A couple of polypeptide-P and charantin therefore effectively reduce the amount of sugar in the blood, which is especially beneficial for type 2 diabetes.

4. Increases resistance to infections

Bitter melon juice increases the body’s resistance to infections and strongly supports immunity.

5. Liver protection and regeneration

Bitter melon accelerates alcohol metabolism, thus relieving unpleasant post-alcohol conditions (commonly called „hangovers“). In addition, it regenerates, cleans and nourishes the liver. This is especially beneficial for people with liver damage due to alcohol consumption or other causes (e.g. hepatitis).

6. Digestive support

Bitter melon stimulates intestinal peristalsis. It also facilitates digestion in the digestive tract until the remaining food is expelled as stool.

7. Pain relief

It relieves intestinal pain and further promotes blood circulation.

8. Psoriasis

Regular consumption of bitter melon juice reduces psoriasis. It also eliminates fungal infections such as so-called athlete’s foot and other itchy skin conditions.
