Our grandmothers were magicians not only in the kitchen, but in the whole household. We bring you a few perfect tips that you will use every day!
Preserve the flavor and juiciness of garlic
You can keep garlic fresh and juicy with salt. Put it in a jar with salt and you can store it even for a year without its taste or juiciness changing.
Drying woolen clothes
The best way to dry a wool sweater is with nylon stockings. Thread the pantyhose through the sleeves of the sweater and pull the top through the neck opening. Hang it as shown in the picture. This way the sweater won’t stretch and will dry faster.
Fight against insects
Put bay leaves into a bowl of sugar, flour and anywhere there is a risk of moths and beetles invading. This will also deter ants, flies and other insects.
No stiffener needed for whipped cream
If you want perfectly whipped cream that holds its shape well, add an egg white while whipping.
Alpa and tea
If you want your windows to shine again, you can use a mixture of warm water and Alpa. A cooled weak tea or vinegar water will help make a mirror shiny. Soak a cloth in the liquid, wring it out and wipe the mirror. When it dries, you can polish it.
Roses will last twice as long if you put half an aspirin in the water.
Aspirin prevents the water from deteriorating and helps protect chrysanthemums, carnations, gladioli and roses. For daffodils, it’s better to add a pinch of salt to the water.
Removes hardened skin and calluses on the feet
Aspirin also helps easily remove dead skin from the feet. Crush 7 tablets and add half a teaspoon of lemon juice to make a paste. Apply the mixture to the soles and cover with a warm cloth. Leave for 10 minutes and then treat the feet with a pumice stone.
Helper salt
If you have opened a carton of milk or cream, know that it will last much longer if you sprinkle a little salt into it. A small amount of salt won’t change the taste, but it will save you money. My grandmother always did this when she didn’t want to lose precious milk.
If you bought a new towel that you are using for the first time, you know what a great feeling it is. However, towels gradually lose softness and absorbency with washing; they become unpleasant to the touch and smell less appealing. To prevent this feeling, at the first opportunity add 1 cup of salt to the wash. That will keep the towels in perfect condition.
A kitchen helper for curtains
It perfectly whitens yellowed and old curtains. You can add it directly to the laundry powder (only a little powder is really enough). For very yellowed curtains, pour about 5–6 liters of water into a pan and add 5 baking powder sachets. Let it dissolve and then soak the curtains in the water, let them act and then wash.
Potatoes remove irritation and inflammation on the skin, and pigment spots disappear as well
Take a small potato, wash it and slice it. Place the cut side on a clean wound or secure it with a bandage or adhesive plaster.
Potatoes reduce itching and inflammation and help hydrate the wound, which increases the speed of healing. They help with any irritation and pain.
Juice from raw potatoes – a remedy for many ailments
Next time you grate and squeeze a pile of raw potatoes, definitely don’t throw away the juice! It can help with many problems. If you use it on skin or hair, wash it off with clean water after about ten minutes of action.
- It positively affects digestion, has a mild laxative effect. It is also suitable for people who suffer from stomach or duodenal ulcers – in that case drink half a glass daily for about a week. A little honey can be added for taste.
- If you suffer from heartburn, take a spoonful of this juice before a meal.
- If you need to get rid of bad breath, gargle with it. You can also use it for inflamed tonsils, canker sores or mouth inflammations.
- Serious medical studies deal with the ability of potato juice to act as a natural antibiotic.
- If you suffer from eczema, dry skin or rheumatism, add the juice to your bath. Because it hydrates and also acts antibacterial, it is great for acne problems.
- Stood juice from raw potatoes is an excellent facial tonic. It removes excess skin oil, impurities and bacteria.
- Pure juice from raw potatoes is rich in enzymes and vitamins; solanine is effective in regenerating stressed skin, cracked skin and caring for the nail beds.
This will save poppy seeds if they turn bitter
If your poppy seeds have become bitter and you don’t want to throw them away, simply rinse them on a sieve under lukewarm water (use a fine mesh to prevent the poppy from escaping into the sink).
Then spread the poppy seeds on a baking sheet and dry them again in the oven. To prevent poppy seeds from turning bitter, transfer them to an airtight container immediately after bringing them home and store in a dry, dark place. Remember that poppy seeds go bitter due to moisture.
If you want poppy seeds in cakes to be extra tasty, roast them in a dry pan before preparing the filling!
The best repellent against flies and mosquitoes
We need:
- ½ cup of vinegar
- ½ cup of olive oil
- ½ cup of green shampoo
How to do it?
Pour the 3 ingredients into a spray bottle and shake. It’s enough to simply spray the mixture around the apartment or spray it on yourself.
Against aphids and other pests
A little soapy water in a spray is a good repellent against pests attacking plants. Gardeners praise it especially in the fight against aphids.
