How to clean washer and stove knobs from dirt and grease?
First Method:
You will need a toothbrush, cotton swabs, and drops of anise and ammonia, which are cheap, available and mainly used to treat coughs.
- Preparing the solution: Dip a cotton swab into the anise and ammonia mixture and rub all the grimy surfaces. The swab will reach places your hand cannot. If you don’t have a swab, a soft brush will do.
- Cleaning: After applying the solution, use a toothbrush for a thorough clean. After cleaning, wipe the surfaces with a damp cloth.
Second Method:
An old toothbrush and ammonia are great helpers when cleaning.
- Preparation: Always work with ammonia while wearing gloves. Dip cotton swabs in ammonia and wipe them over the dirty areas so the ammonia reaches their surface.
- Cleaning: Use a toothbrush to thoroughly clean the surfaces. You’ll see how easy and quick it goes. Finally wipe the surfaces with a damp cloth and the stove will be like new!
Removable knobs
- Soak the knobs in a mixture of water, dish soap and dissolved dishwasher tablets (you can also use laundry powder). Let them soak and then simply clean them.
Cleaning burners and grates
- You need only ammonia and a plastic bag. Take a resealable plastic bag and add 5 tablespoons of ammonia. Insert the grate or burner, seal the bag and let it sit for 12 hours. Finally just wipe it with a cloth. Use gloves when doing this work.
Other oven cleaning agents
Common baking soda, citric acid or baking powder are great helpers for removing dirt from the walls and glass on oven doors.
- Cleaning oven walls: Moisten the inside of the oven with water, apply soaked baking soda or citric acid. Leave for 15 minutes and then carefully wipe the mixture away using a paper towel. Rinse the oven with clean water and remove any remaining dirt.
- Vinegar and water: Water and vinegar will help remove small dirt in a 1:1 ratio. Wash the oven walls with the vinegar water, turn the oven to 50 degrees and after 15 minutes rinse with clean water.
- Cleaning paste: Mix salt, baking soda and water in equal parts. Apply the resulting paste to the contaminated surface and leave overnight. In the morning simply rinse the cleaning paste off with water.
Linda’s story: How to thoroughly clean the dirtiest stove
Linda and her husband David bought a small cottage by the woods where they wanted to spend the summer. However, when they entered, the first thing that struck Linda’s eyes was an incredibly dirty stove covered with black burnt residues. Linda told herself she wouldn’t let it ruin her mood and decided to document her process step by step.
What she used:
- 1 packet of baking powder
- 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (you can substitute alcohol)
- 2 tablespoons of cleaning powder
- Dish soap
- ¼ cup of all-purpose cleaner (brand doesn’t matter)
Procedure:
- Preparing the solution: Pour water into a pot (about 6 cm is enough) and add the apple cider vinegar. Put the burners into this solution, turn on the flame and let it boil for 10 minutes. Then remove from the heat and leave in the water until it cools. Afterwards use a gentle steel wool with a little dish soap and simply clean.
- Cleaning the buttons: Simply pull the stove buttons off. Fill a bowl with warm water, add 2 tablespoons of powder, ¼ cup of all-purpose cleaner and 2 tablespoons of dish soap. Let soak for only 5 minutes, then simply clean with a sponge.
- Cleaning the grates: If you need to clean the burner grates as well, place them in a bath of vinegar and water (1:1 ratio).
