This not very well known leaf is one of the healing miracles that nature offers. Our grandmothers already knew and used it and we should not forget its healing effects. It will also replace expensive preparations from the pharmacy and you know how to process it yourself at home.

  • Cleanses the urinary tract as well

This plant has the ability to heal almost any wound, regardless of the size or severity of the injury. It is also highly effective in syrup form for treating coughs.

The miraculous salve you can’t buy in stores

We will need

  • 500 g of pork lard
  • Beeswax (about 200-300g)
  • Plantain leaves (ribwort plantain) – the best are the leaves of young plantain (we need enough of them so they are completely covered by the melted fat).

How to do it?

Melt the fat over a low flame and add finely chopped plantain leaves. At a temperature of 60 degrees (we can transfer the whole mixture to the oven) let it steep at this temperature for 4 hours. Then let it rest until the next day at room temperature. The following day add the beeswax to the mixture and melt everything together again; fill the prepared ointment into jars and store in a cooler place. We use it to fight bone and joint pain and for skin care.

Plantain disinfectant

My grandmother already used this recipe and it is excellent as a natural disinfectant or for problems with inflammation of the throat, teeth, or gums – we use it as a gargle.

The preparation is very simple – we can steep the plantain leaves in alcohol or Alpa and use it as a disinfectant like those from the pharmacy. After mixing with pure distilled water we can use it as a cream.

Excellent for the skin!

This plantain disinfectant can be used to treat burns, poorly healing wounds, scratches or inflamed areas on the skin. It can also help reduce itching and pain after insect bites. If you add a few drops of plantain tincture to boiled water, you will create a great homemade lotion that is specifically made to treat acne.

Medicinal cough syrup

1. Clean freshly picked plantain leaves.

2. Layer the leaves into a preserving jar, cover with sugar, and continue layering until you reach the top.

3. Press down firmly to the top and seal the jar.

4. Wrap thoroughly in bags and plastic or other protective material.

5. Now comes the strangest part – bury the prepared mixture in the garden for 8 weeks (choose a shady spot for burial – this is important because if the jar gets very warm, the leaves could start to ferment. Dig a hole, insert the jar and I recommend marking the spot).

6. After 8 weeks dig it up, strain through a sieve – you will be left with a brown-black colored syrup.

7. Store it in the refrigerator and take when needed (adults one tablespoon 3 times a day, children one teaspoon 3 times a day; kept cold it lasts approximately one year).

It tastes similar to pharmacy syrup. You can improve it by adding mint or thyme. The syrup works quickly; I don’t know a better medicine for cough and inflamed bronchi.

Plantain tea – excellent for cough, congestion and lung diseases

We will need 2 teaspoons of dried leaves and 0.5 liter of water. Pour the required amount of boiling water over the plantain leaves in a small pot and let it simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. Then strain the tea and drink 2 cups a day.
