A miraculous ointment you won’t buy in stores
What we need (dose for the whole year):
- 500 g pork lard
- Beeswax (about 200-300g)
Plantain leaves (ribwort plantain) – the best are leaves of young plantain (we need enough so they are completely covered by the melted fat).
Procedure:
- Melt the fat over a flame and add finely chopped plantain leaves.
- At a temperature of 60 degrees (we can transfer the whole mixture to the oven), let it infuse for 4 hours at this temperature.
- Then let it rest at room temperature until the next day.
- On the second day add the beeswax to the mixture and melt everything together again.
- Fill the prepared ointment into jars and store in a cooler place.
- Use for rubbing on joints, aching bones and for skin treatment.
Plantain disinfectant
My grandmother already used this recipe and it is excellent as a natural disinfectant or for problems with inflammation of the throat, teeth or gums – we use it as a gargle.
The preparation is very simple – steep plantain leaves in alcohol or Alpa and use it the same way as a pharmacy disinfectant. After mixing with pure distilled water it can be used as a facial toner.
Excellent for the skin
This plantain disinfectant can be used to treat burns, poorly healing wounds, scratches or inflamed areas on the skin. It can also help suppress itching and pain after insect bites. If you add a few drops of plantain tincture to boiled water, you create a great homemade facial toner, which is perfect for treating acne-prone skin.
How to prepare a medicinal syrup for cough
- Clean freshly picked plantain leaves.
- Layer the leaves into a preserving jar, cover with sugar, and continue layering until you reach the top.
- Press down firmly to the rim and seal the jar.
- Wrap thoroughly in bags and plastic or other protective material.
- Now comes the most unusual part – bury the prepared mixture in the garden for 8 weeks (choose a shady spot for burying – this is important because if it were very warm in the jar, the leaves could start to ferment. Dig a hole, place the jar and I recommend marking the spot).
- After 8 weeks dig it up, strain through a sieve – you will have a brown-black syrup.
- Store in the refrigerator and use when needed (adults one tablespoon 3x daily, children one teaspoon 3x daily, in the cold it will last approximately one year).
It tastes similar to pharmacy syrup. You can improve it by adding mint or thyme. The syrup works quickly; I don’t know a better remedy for cough and inflamed bronchi.
Plantain tea – excellent for cough, phlegm and lung diseases
You need 2 teaspoons of dried leaves and 0.5 liters of water. Pour the boiling water over the plantain leaves in a small pot and let steep for about 15 to 20 minutes. Then strain the tea and for the mentioned problems drink 2 cups daily.
