Vegetarianism or veganism have become increasingly popular lifestyles in recent years. A diet without meat, or even without any animal products, is beneficial to the body in various ways. Some people choose this form of eating because of health problems, others adopt it out of conviction quite naturally.
See what happens to your body when you remove meat from your diet.
7. The risk of inflammation in the body decreases
Cheeses, milk and meat itself promote various types of inflammation in the human body. Not those that arise after injuries or surgeries. Those are completely natural in such cases. A meat-based diet helps keep chronic inflammations in the body for several months, even years. Vegetarianism, on the other hand, includes foods that have anti-inflammatory effects. Studies have shown that people who consume exclusively plant-based diets have several times lower levels of CRP protein (an indicator of inflammatory diseases) in their bodies.
6. Your cholesterol will decrease
High cholesterol is the scourge of the 21st century. Not only the USA, but Slovakia is increasingly experiencing problems with elevated cholesterol. The driving force behind the poor results is frequent consumption of cheeses, poultry and other animal products. According to research, a plant-based diet can reduce blood cholesterol levels by up to 35%, which is a comparable figure to pharmaceutical products. In addition, it contains a large amount of fiber, which is another effective weapon in the fight against high cholesterol levels.
5. You will support your microorganisms
The human body consists of billions of microorganisms across our body. These microorganisms have various importance for the organism. They help digest ingested food, produce various nutrients, strengthen our immune system, etc. According to studies, they also help in the prevention of various diseases. And it is precisely a plant-based diet that helps these microorganisms in their work. It most affects the microorganisms acting in the digestive tract. Conversely, too frequent meat-based diets heavily burden your digestive tract.
4. You strengthen your genes
A plant-based diet also positively influences human genes. It may sound strange, but it is so. It has been proven that antioxidants and other beneficial substances found in such a diet have a positive effect on how the body can deal with damaged DNA. Further studies have confirmed positive effects in the prevention of prostate cancer. A plant-based diet even slows the shortening of the terminal parts of chromosomes. These parts shorten with aging until eventually the whole cell dies. Does that mean we could live longer?
3. You reduce the risk of diabetes
In the ranking of the scares of the 21st century, diabetes follows high cholesterol. Not the congenital kind, but the one we can acquire at any time during life. Meat products, especially red meat, multiply these risks. If you consume meat once a week for 17 years, your risk of developing type 2 diabetes is up to 74% higher than that of a vegetarian. Why is that? It’s all because of animal fats, which damage the cells in the pancreas and this is precisely the trigger for this disease.
2. Precise protein levels
The average “omnivore” consumes 1.5 times the amount of protein the body needs through their diet. But that is not as beneficial as it might seem. On the contrary, excess proteins are stored by the body as fat, or are excreted as waste. A plant-based diet does not give the body anything it does not need. Protein levels are normal and, unlike animal proteins, they have a positive effect in the prevention of many chronic diseases.
1. You will help the world
Animal production is one of the greatest killers of our planet. It produces enormous amounts of greenhouse gases and at its expense extensive areas of forested land are deforested every year. Thousands of liters of water consumed for animal production could save millions of lives in other parts of the world. Some parts of the world’s oceans are almost completely overfished, others are extremely polluted. And the conditions in which these animals must live out their lives. All of this because of our plates.
