For this lymph node massage you will need nothing more than your hands. During flu season and colds we can suffer from blocked sinuses, headaches, a runny nose and cough. Sinusitis, that is inflammation of the paranasal sinuses, brings a feeling of pressure that can result in unbearable headaches.

Lymphatic massage

Everyone probably has their own way to relieve blocked sinuses. Steam inhalation from brewed herbs or even a neti pot to rinse the nose. But doing a lymph massage at home by yourself probably wouldn’t occur to you. The nasal sinuses are part of the lymphatic system. By massaging you stimulate the flow of lymph and the sinuses will clear themselves better.

How to do it?

It is important to say that if you are currently in the acute phase of an illness (inflammation, infection, fever), this massage is not suitable. It should rather serve as prevention of problems. People with heart disease, pregnant women, oncology patients, obese people and those who suffer from thrombosis and varicose veins should also be careful. In such a case it is advisable to consult your doctor first. If these contraindications do not apply to you, go ahead!

The pressure with which you should massage is compared to tossing a coin onto a table. So not too little, not too much. To clean the facial sinuses focus on 4 places.

Collarbones

Place your fingers on the collarbones and press upward into the soft tissue. Repeat every 2 seconds, preferably 50 to 100 times. You will feel the flow of lymph.

Neck

Place both palms on both sides of the neck under the ears. Press downward toward the shoulders. Repeat at least 50 times and you will feel the lymph flowing down from the nodes behind the ears.

Nape

With your palms and fingers glide under pressure from the head to the nape. Also repeat at least 50 times.

Ear

Here use the well-known Star Trek salute. Hand in the shape of a V, with the gap in the middle. On one side the little finger and ring finger, on the other the middle and index finger. Embrace your ear like this, little and ring finger on the face and middle and index finger behind the ear. Move the hand downward under slight pressure. Repeat again 50 times.
