Homemade rosemary tincture

This tincture is suitable if you need concentrated rosemary and you can easily make it at home.

You will need:

  • fresh rosemary
  • concentrated alcohol (for external use you can use Alpa)
  • a glass sealable bottle

Procedure:

1. Remove brown leaves and woody twigs from fresh rosemary. Use not only the leaves but also green twigs if they are not woody. It looks nice and saves work.

2. Put the leaves and twigs into a clean container.

3. Fill it with strong alcohol (at least 36%). The leaves and twigs should float in the alcohol and be completely submerged. For external use you can use cheap vodka or lower-quality alcohol. For internal use use better-quality alcohol.

4. Close the bottle tightly and label it with the date you made the tincture. Then place it in the sun, ideally on a windowsill, for 4 weeks and shake occasionally.

5. After 4 weeks, strain the mixture and pour into a dark glass bottle. Put a label on it so you know what the bottle contains.

6. If you followed all hygiene rules, the tincture should last you several years.

Use

For internal use take 3-5 drops on the tongue every morning and, if possible, in the forenoon. For external use dilute the tincture in a bowl – 1 part tincture to 3-4 parts water. Undiluted tincture is too harsh for the skin. Rub the diluted tincture onto sore joints or muscles.
