Milk and onion
These two foods have an extremely strong effect. When the first signs of a cold appear, they are an ideal help. Onion has a strong antiviral effect and helps strengthen a weakened immune system. Milk has soothing effects, so it is suitable for alleviating cough. When it is also hot, it reduces inflammation and throat pain. It’s no wonder that the recipe draws on these two ingredients.
Remedy for dry cough
All you will need:
- 1 l of milk
- 1 onion
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
Preparation
Peel the onion and cut it into four pieces. If your eyes water, lightly wet the knife and rinse the onion, it will be easier to work with. Boil it with the milk, butter and a teaspoon of baking soda. Cook the mixture for about five minutes. Then let it cool and add the honey. Drink the beverage lukewarm. Always take only a little and sip throughout the day.
Remedy for severe cough
All you will need:
- 250 ml of milk
- Onion
- A pinch of sage
Preparation
Bring the milk to a boil and add the chopped onion and also a pinch of sage. Cook until the onion is completely soft. Then blend the drink and drink in small doses. If your cough is really severe, drink the beverage in the evening before bed.
If you also want to help with fever, add a little garlic in addition to the onion, which has similar antiviral effects and can restore lost strength to the body. The drink will be significantly stronger, so sip it in very small amounts so you don’t get an upset stomach. About three to four tablespoons a day will suffice.
