You surely know it well: as soon as you enter a store, an employee rushes up to you asking how they can help. Some sincerely welcome this kind of attention, while others are put off and dislike shopping afterward.
Which group do you belong to?
The French cosmetics brand Sephora tackled this problem in a very interesting way. In a store in London it placed two types of shopping baskets.
Red basket
The basket clearly indicates that the customer wishes to be approached by a sales assistant and is seeking their help.
Black basket
The black one signals to sales assistants that the customer is able to choose on their own and does not want assistance.
This solution was enthusiastically welcomed by many customers. Who knows, maybe different-colored baskets will appear at other retailers as well.
