In our modern world, heart attacks rank among one of the main causes of death. Unfortunately, this disease often comes on suddenly and without warning.
Although its onset is difficult to predict, our body still sends signals beforehand that can at least to some extent predict it.
Main symptoms of a heart attack include:
- chest pain
- sensitivity to light
- irritability
- nausea
- vomiting
- heavy sweating
The above symptoms are typical for both women and men.
However, some symptoms occur almost exclusively in women. And those are exactly what we’ll discuss more in our article today.
1. Pain in the back, neck, jaw and arms
The listed symptoms can be somewhat confusing because a heart attack is usually associated with chest pain, not neck or jaw pain.
Such pain may be progressive, stabbing, acute or sudden. You can even wake up in the middle of the night from it. If it happens to you, it’s best to inform your doctor about it.
2. Sharp stomach pain, nausea
Some signs of an upcoming heart attack are mistaken by people for symptoms of food poisoning, the flu or heartburn.
Women sometimes feel pressure in the abdominal cavity that can be described as if “an elephant were sitting on your stomach”.
3. Cold sweat
Cold sweat is another symptom of a heart attack in women. It is probably related to its association with stress.
If you break out in a cold sweat and you have not experienced it before, be sure to visit a specialist doctor.
4. Shortness of breath and dizziness
Breathing problems without any apparent cause are a common precursor of an impending heart attack. This is especially true if they occur together with any of the other symptoms.
Women who have experienced it (and survived) say it’s like running a marathon while you haven’t moved at all.
5. Increased fatigue
If even after a longer period of rest you still feel tired and cannot perform even normal daily activities (for example, visiting the toilet), it is an extremely worrying sign.
If this happens to you, it is a serious reason to raise your attention regarding the condition of your cardiovascular system.
6. Discomfort in the entire chest
Chest pain, discomfort, burning or a feeling of pressure – these are all symptoms of a heart attack that apply to both sexes.
However, some women do not feel this discomfort only in the left part of the chest, as is customary, but throughout the chest. If such conditions do not subside within a few minutes, call an ambulance immediately.
Conclusion
None of the symptoms listed is a guarantee that a heart attack is actually occurring. However, their combination and frequent occurrence is reason enough to visit a doctor.
Timely medical intervention can save lives. Take care of yourself!
