Do you ever think about what you eat and how it affects your health? Even if at first glance you think you’re consuming something healthy, it may not benefit your body at all. It’s enough to combine inappropriate foods that make a real mess in your digestive system.

These seven food combinations are part of many people’s everyday diets, but did you know that by eating them you’re harming your body?

In the morning it often happens that you don’t have time for a proper breakfast, so you reach for a sandwich, which is a quick and tasty alternative. However, if you have a sandwich with cheese and also enjoy a coffee, you kill all the good properties of the cheese. Simple carbohydrates in white bread prevent the absorption of calcium, and if you add coffee to that, the effect is zero.

TIP: If you love cheese sandwiches, try replacing white bread with wholegrain and instant coffee with green or white tea.

Do you also like pasta with Bolognese sauce or perhaps lasagna at an Italian restaurant? In this case the same applies as with potatoes and meat. Pasta contains starch which is turned into simple sugars by the action of the salivary glands, which produce ptyalin and amylase.

When simple sugars combine with protein from meat, they create a dangerous chemical mixture that can also lead to diabetes or cardiovascular diseases.

TIP: It’s better to eat pasta as a standalone dish and not as a side to meat. Try to choose pasta made from durum wheat and combine it with herb-based sauces.

Tomatoes and cucumbers are surely a popular part of your salad too. However, the latest research has revealed that the combination of these two foods can disrupt your biochemical processes in the body. This can cause the body to not properly absorb the vitamins contained in both foods.

TIP: Eat tomatoes and cucumbers separately. One day make a salad with tomatoes and another day make a salad with cucumbers.

Do you also have a banana milkshake in the morning without remorse because you think it’s the best breakfast you can have? This combination has become very popular among many people because it’s nutritious and easy to prepare. However, some nutrition experts believe that especially sweet types of fruit should be eaten alone. They stay in the body longer and slow digestion, especially when combined with other foods. As for milk, it’s also better to consume it on its own.

TIP: Eat bananas on their own between main meals.

Acidic fruit causes your digestion to be slower, especially in the morning. In addition, pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme complex that can, in combination with dairy products, cause intoxication.

TIP: Instead of pineapple, add dried apricots or prunes to dairy products.

Who wouldn’t indulge in a good piece of meat with potatoes or fries? It’s a favorite meal combination, but it’s very heavy for the body. The starch in potatoes requires alkaline digestive juices, while the protein from meat requires acidic. When they’re together, they just get stuck in your stomach and this can lead to heartburn, flatulence or other digestive problems.

TIP: As a side to meat, choose vegetables that are not starchy, for example zucchini, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower or green beans.

When you go out with friends, it often ends with the favorite combination of beer and nuts. Foods high in salt like salted peanuts are not unhealthy by themselves, but they lead to dehydration, which increases the likelihood that you’ll drink more beer than you originally would have.
