Our body is a gift we must take care of. When something goes wrong, something hurts, we feel tired or lack the ability to concentrate, we can reach for the many different pills found in abundance on the market. Or we can care for our body without them: naturally.
Long-term use of medications leaves many undesirable side effects on our organism. How did our ancestors actually deal with ailments? Let’s return to our roots and find natural ways and methods to restore and maintain mental and physical health. Chinese acupressure therapy undoubtedly belongs among them.
What does acupressure mean?
Chinese acupressure refers to a method in which, by pressing certain points on our body, we treat many health ailments. It works by applying pressure to a point, stimulating the area, increasing blood circulation in it and activating nerves that are otherwise tense because of pain. Acupressure can therefore relieve stress and improve blood circulation.
On the soles of the feet alone we find more than 15 000 nerves and nerve connections. This network is of course connected to the whole body. Therefore, when you press an area of a nerve connected to a problematic part of the body, you can get rid of headaches, back pain, insomnia, digestive troubles or other ailments.
The most important acupressure points
On the foot there is one of the most significant points called „the Great Rush Point“. You locate it on your instep, about four centimeters behind the tips of the toes, between the big toe and the second toe. Instead of centimeters you can also measure by the width of the pads of your toes. Massaging the Great Rush Point will help reduce headaches and menstrual cramps and can also relieve insomnia.
As a second example, there is the „Three Miles“ point. You find it on your shinbone, or just beside it, about four centimeters below the kneecap. Press the point for about six seconds and then release for two seconds. Repeat for at least five minutes, then do the same on the other leg. You will relieve menstrual pain, bloating and digestive problems.
When to practice acupressure?
The best time to practice acupressure therapy is in the evening, when the muscles have already had a demanding day. You need not fear side effects; gentle acupressure is a safe way to strengthen your health. At the very least you will relieve your tired feet and find it pleasantly easier to fall asleep.
