You’ve probably already heard of flax seeds in connection with cleansing the intestines, as an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, or as a cancer treatment.
Did you know, however, that they are also a great means to support hair growth?
Before we move to the recipe itself, let’s first look at the ways that support hair growth.
1. An excellent source of vitamin E
Vitamin E is one of the best vitamins you can use to support the growth of your hair.
It owes this to its strong antioxidant effect, which protects hair and the scalp from damage and the formation of dandruff.
It also improves the quality of blood capillaries, thereby increasing blood circulation in the scalp and the supply of nutrients to the hair roots.
Vitamin E also helps prevent premature graying of hair.
2. They create balance in the scalp’s pH and sebum production
Flax seeds help restore the natural pH balance of the scalp and sebum production.
These are two factors that influence the rate of hair growth and their health. Flax seeds soothe the skin and subcutaneous glands, suppress inflammation and thus induce the correct skin pH.
For their growth, hair also needs the skin not to be too dry. And that is ensured by sebum.
3. They nourish the hair
As we mentioned in the introduction, flax seeds are a rich source of omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids, which are essential for healthy hair growth.
Omega-3 fatty acids strengthen hair roots and make them more resistant to external damage. Hair then grows faster and is stronger and less prone to breakage.
Omega-3 acids also improve hair elasticity.
4. They moisturize hair and the scalp
Flax seeds give the scalp and hair the proper surface structure.
The correct surface structure subsequently helps retain moisture, limits hair breakage, split ends, drying out and even reduces the buildup of static electricity.
5. They soothe the scalp
Regular consumption of flax seeds prevents hair loss and shedding, scalp eczema, and dandruff formation.
Additionally, flax seeds are a great source of both soluble and insoluble fiber.
They can be used both internally and in recipes for external application. We will tell you about one such recipe for external use in the next section.
How to prepare a hair gel at home using flax seeds
For the preparation of our gel you will need the following ingredients:
- 1/4 cup of flax seeds, about 0.5 dl
- 2 cups of water, approximately 4 dl
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
Preparation method
Proceed as follows:
1. Put the flax seeds into a pot and pour water over them.
2. Bring the water to a boil and simmer over low heat until the liquid begins to thicken.
3. Now add the lemon juice (Cooking will destroy vitamin C, but this recipe is not about that, so it is not a problem).
4. Stir everything again and turn off the heat. Strain the liquid through a sieve into a bowl or other container.
5. Let it cool. The liquid should continue to thicken until it forms a gel.
6. Then transfer the prepared gel to a sealable container and store it in the refrigerator.
Application
Apply the produced gel regularly to your hair and scalp. It is best to do this every morning and evening.
It won’t take long before you notice your hair growing faster, becoming thicker and substantially better in quality.
There is no set total duration of use; continue applying the gel as needed.
