Are you finding that the plant is very lush, has many leaves, dense roots and yet no longer has the strength to bloom or doesn’t flower as we’d like? An experienced grower will show you a simple procedure to not only rejuvenate the plant but also propagate it. The key is to prepare really sharp scissors and new material for repotting the plant and at the same time planting the new plant. The gardener in the video uses bark, which he first scalds with hot water.

Remove orchids from the old substrate

The first step will be thinning the plant’s leaves. Cut them off, leaving only one pair of the top leaves – this will reveal the stem area with new shoots. It is from these that we will have a new plant. When the shoots are sufficiently visible, you have the best foundation for a future orchid. If the shoots are still too small, wait until they grow a little more. Now thin out the old roots as well and simply snap them off.

Cut the plant in half – at the spot below the new shoots.

A new plant will sprout from the shoots and the old roots that we rejuvenated will also eventually produce a new stem. We untangle the root section in water and check which roots still need to be removed – damaged, rotten.

Now prepare two containers, ideally transparent, and layer bark into them, which we first scald with hot water. Place both parts of the plant into separate containers and care for them as usual. From each will grow a beautiful new plant.
