Maybe this information will surprise you, but it really is true. You don’t need to have a large variety of fertilizers at home depending on the types of plants you have indoors or in the garden. Many plants will be more than satisfied with leftovers from various foods, e.g. eggshells or banana peels. Some plants may not like certain foods, but they will certainly do well with cheap food supplements that you can buy for a few crowns at any small pharmacy. What fertilizers does your household offer without buying industrial fertilizers?

Magnesium sulfate

Magnesium sulfate is exactly one of those products that not everyone necessarily needs to have at home. Even so, don’t give up, because you can buy it at any pharmacy for relatively little money. People who suffer from constipation and gallbladder problems, for which it is used, will have this product at home. Magnesium sulfate is especially suitable for tomatoes, peppers and roses, but you can also use it for all other types of vegetables. Take into account the size of the plant and, just before watering, sprinkle 3–4 tablespoons of magnesium sulfate around the plant. Then water the plant so the powdered substance reaches the soil and the plant’s roots.

Beer

You don’t have to be the only one quenching your thirst with beer on hot days. Try watering the lawn in your garden with it and see how it will thrive. If you water the lawn with beer, you provide it with the necessary nutrients; the lawn will prosper and grow. You will be able to observe a beautiful dark green lawn on your property that will be dense and very pleasant to walk on barefoot. It is more economical to buy a few bottles of beer than needlessly expensive lawn fertilizer.

Banana peels

If until now you have been throwing banana peels on the compost or into the trash bin, you have been making a mistake all along. Ordinary banana peels can cheaply and naturally fertilize especially roses, which need potassium for their growth and flowering. Potassium is the substance that is abundant in bananas. Simply scatter banana peels under the rose bushes.

Eggshells

Eggshells have been used as fertilizer for many centuries. It was our grandmothers and great-grandmothers who used eggshells as fertilizer for plants that require a high calcium content. Calcium helps especially tomatoes, which will have abundant flowers and subsequently large and juicy fruits. Crushed eggshells are appreciated not only by tomatoes but also by pumpkins and potatoes. Just crush the shells finely and scatter them under the plants you decided to fertilize.

Coffee grounds

Even coffee grounds are a product that is a shame to throw into the trash. We may not consume them, but save them for the plants. Coffee grounds contain many substances that some plants will really appreciate. So if you have leftover grounds at home, whether from Turkish coffee or a coffee maker, give them to hydrangeas, azaleas and magnolias, and you will be able to watch the plants thrive beautifully and bloom profusely.
