My name is Miška. My husband is Saša. We got married seven years ago. The wedding was beautiful and fun. The guests sincerely wished us love, mutual understanding and, of course, children. We also started trying for them right after the wedding.

My first pregnancy was unsuccessful, the embryo stopped developing, as they say “froze”. We were very sorry about it and continued our efforts. But again everything went wrong.

The second pregnancy was even worse than the first; it was ectopic. And after the operation I heard a terrible sentence – I would never be able to have children.

Our grief was enormous. Both Saša and I took it terribly. We began to live for ourselves, to enjoy the good things. But now we are thirty. We have everything we need: an apartment, a cottage, two cars. We take a trip abroad twice a year, but there is a kind of emptiness in our lives …

Saša was the first to start talking about adoption

– Miška, what if we took a child from an orphanage? Everyone has children … and everyone talks only about strollers, scooters and cartoons … I would like to raise a baby too …

– Saša, I was thinking about it too, but I was somehow afraid to suggest it to you … And who would you prefer? A boy or a girl?

– I don’t mind, but I’d probably prefer a girl; I’d like to raise her like a princess!

– Okay. I agree.

We began to sort out the paperwork. Thanks to our financial situation we received permission to adopt very quickly. Then the festive day came when we went to see the children at the orphanage. We didn’t think about newborns — that would have taken too long — but there were many older children there.

When we arrived, the children were playing in the yard. We stood at a distance and looked around. Then I felt someone tugging at my skirt. When I looked down, I saw a blond girl with charming freckles. She could have been about three or four years old.

She smiled and asked me

– Auntie, aren’t you my mom by any chance?

My heart almost stopped. I had no idea what to answer, but treacherous tears sprang to my eyes and these words came unbidden to my lips:

– Yes, my dear, your father and I came here to see you!

Saša took the child into his arms and we went to the director of the orphanage

His name was Alexei Pavlovich. When he saw us with this little girl in our arms, he shook his head dismissively, with a touch of pity, and asked the caregiver to take the child. Then he led us into his office to have a talk.

– You know… it’s a bit more complicated… this girl is not alone…

I immediately interrupted Alexei Pavlovich:

– So what, we’ll take them both! Does she have a little brother?

– No, no, she has two sisters… They are triplets. Will you take them all?

Saša and I just blinked. Three identical princesses? Does that even exist?

– Did their parents abandon them?

– Their mother was our ward. She was still very young when she became pregnant… And suddenly she gave birth to three children and her body couldn’t withstand it: the children could be saved, but she could not… Nobody took them. Who needs three at once? But we simply cannot separate them!

– We want them!

Saša said convincingly and stood up.

– Come on, show us all of them! What are their names?

Masha, Dasha and … Sasha … you’ll have namesakes …
We hurried to the girls. They immediately treated us like their own, bombarded us with questions and told us their stories.

A few days later the five of us went to choose a new big apartment, because for our now multiple family we needed a lot of space!
