Who wouldn’t like boiled corn. Whether we buy it cooked or raw, it is a delicacy that can be enjoyed year-round. If we buy it at stands, however, we often encounter an excessive price. Of course, the best way to solve this is to prepare it at home yourself. It’s not complicated. Still, there are a few tricks that are good to know. Read today’s article and find out how to prepare the tastiest boiled corn.

How to properly prepare corn

Well-cooked corn isn’t rocket science. Half the success lies in buying an ear of good quality. But how do you choose the right one? Buy an ear that is fresh and green. Above all, it must be sweet corn. Do not buy feed corn; that is used for feeding animals. If you buy corn directly from the source, it’s better to choose a farmer who grows on a smaller field. Too large fields usually do not have such high-quality crops. What should you focus on?

  • avoid dry, withered, and yellow leaves
  • choose ears with green husks

Once you find a nicely green and fresh ear, peel back one leaf and look at how it looks inside. If a nice yellow greets you, you’ve found the right one. Don’t take faded ones. From yellow corn a milky white liquid should flow out when cut. If it is pink, it is feed corn.

Tips for cooking

If you are cooking frozen corn, let it thaw properly first. Corn will taste much better if you cook it in a pot together with the husk leaves. Don’t forget to cover the pot so everything heats through nicely.

If you want to take the flavor a bit further, add a tablespoon of butter or oil and a little sugar to the boiling water. Add a few drops of lemon to the water and you will preserve the nice yellow color of the ear. Do not salt the water, as it does not benefit the quality of the corn. Rather salt the ear after you remove it from the water. You can eat boiled corn whole or cut it into salads or serve it as a side dish with meat.
