If you are wondering what to “feed” your strawberries so that they are healthy and you can look forward to a bountiful harvest, we have a few tips for you. These are 3 proven homemade fertilizers that you can make comfortably at home and you don’t have to go anywhere. In addition we add one bonus. 🙂
Fertilizer from old bread
Thanks to the yeast you will give your strawberries a huge boost and create the ideal environment for cultivation and the formation of large fruits. Yeast acidifies the soil, attracts beneficial organisms and ensures a larger yield for you. Its preparation is very simple. We pour water over old dried bread and weigh it down so it does not float. We let it ferment for about 6-10 days. The resulting solution is diluted with water in a 1:10 ratio .
Nettle for protection and nourishment
A true elixir and at the same time a great way to protect strawberries from pests. Besides, everything you need to make this fertilizer can be found around you. The fertilizer contains easily absorbable nitrogen and potassium, which plants need for their growth. Just fill 1 bucket with nettles and pour water over them. Stir twice a day and use diluted with water in a 1:20 ratio.
soured milk
Dairy products from soured milk – such as buttermilk for example – are beneficial for fruit development. Fermented dairy products are recommended to be mixed with humus, manure and wood ash – this mixture helps create a mildly acidic environment ideal for fruit growth and development. If you pour a milk-and-water solution into a spray bottle and spray it on the strawberries, you can forget about aphids and mites.
chicken manure
Chicken manure is good because it contains an amount of nitrogen without which strawberries cannot produce large and juicy fruits. Ideally use chicken manure in liquid form and dilute with water in a 1:10 ratio – so the strawberries do not get burned. The solution must stand for at least three days and is used only until the strawberries begin to flower.
