When you give your roses enough attention and take care of them carefully, you can look forward to unique flowers. The most important thing of all is that pruning is good for all types of roses, but slightly different for each type. Therefore you should inform yourself well before you start. You usually need to cut 5 mm above the bud on the stem so that the cut slopes in the opposite direction to the bud. If you want the roses to be beautiful in spring, you should prune them in the autumn.

You should also carry out this procedure if the plant has new shoots. On strong shoots you can leave 6-8 buds, but on thinner branches no more than 4-5 buds. Pruning is also recommended in the spring, at the end of March or the beginning of April. How to treat different types of roses? Always remember that each type requires different care.

Hybrid tea and park roses

The hybrid tea rose blooms densely, so it’s worth pruning it thoroughly in the spring. On young shoots leave at least 2-4 buds, on the main branches let 4-6 buds remain and cut each twig from the center. Only then will the plant remain healthy and have the possibility to grow properly and flower abundantly.

Park roses are very popular among people. From this type only a few should be cut in autumn; it’s worth tying the branches together, then bending them back to the ground and covering them. Internal pruning should be done in the spring. In summer you need to cut off the flowering parts.

Dwarf and climbing roses

Dwarf roses should be pruned in the spring, usually in April, and then in autumn you should cut off the dry and diseased parts of the plant. At the end of spring it’s worth pruning some parts of the larger branches. Climbing roses are usually slightly pruned during planting. If they begin to grow, they should be allowed to strengthen, then in autumn they are only lightly pruned and in spring you remove the dried and frost-damaged parts.
