Have you ever found a spot or bruise on your leg and didn’t know how it appeared? It may be a harmless problem that will soon disappear, but it can also be a sign of something more serious.

Causes

If spots occur frequently and you don’t know why, you should not delay visiting a dermatologist who will consult with you about the problem. Causes can be varied; the most common include:

  • aging
  • allergic reaction
  • sun exposure
  • circulation problems
  • atopic dermatitis
  • hyperpigmentation

Get rid of spots

Besides medical treatment, you can also remove spots by other means. Hydration of the skin is important, both internally—by maintaining proper fluid intake—and externally—with creams or oils. You can also use coconut or olive oil. When going out in the sun, protect yourself with sunscreen; this will prevent the formation of spots. Eat foods high in vitamin E. The most vitamin E is found in nuts (especially almonds), in sea fish (salmon, tuna) and in leafy vegetables. Also remember to maintain a healthy lifestyle; that helps more than anything.

Home treatment

At home you can make a preparation that will help lighten the spots. You will only need four ingredients, which are simply mixed together. The ingredients are as follows:  

  • 1 tablespoon of sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil (preferably extra virgin)
  • 1 tablespoon of baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil

Apply the mixture to dark spots and leave it on for about 15 minutes. Then remove it with a large amount of cold water. Repeat daily until the spots disappear.

However, if the spots are caused by atopic dermatitis or problems with poor blood circulation, you should definitely not try to treat them with home remedies. In such cases it is important to visit a specialist who will start appropriate treatment.
