Every homemaker tries to cook filling, good and healthy meals, while also saving as much money as possible. The money needed to feed one person for 5 days is not small given the prices of basic foodstuffs. But what if your budget is very limited? A journalist from Poland decided to test whether 300 Kč would be enough to survive for five days. It turned out that it was possible. How?
Interesting experiment
The money needed for 5 days of varied, healthy and tasty eating is much more than 300 Kč. That’s clear. The results are quite surprising, because the journalist managed to make purchases that allowed her to function normally and she was not hungry. The problem unfortunately arose when cravings for variety and sweets came. The budget simply did not allow for that.
She chose Biedronka (Poland) as the place to buy products
This discount store is known for its low prices and frequent sales. On the following products, which were listed in her article, she spent a total of 43,39 PLN (250 Kč) and still had some left. For that amount she bought sunflower seed bread, 3 bananas, 2 apples, 2 tomatoes, oatmeal, whole grain pasta, hummus, filled dumplings, a can of tuna in oil, 10 eggs, a vegetable mix and a frozen Chinese mix.
When did the problems arise?
Of course she also used products she already had at home that were not included in the costs, such as oil or spices. She had no problems for the first two days. The crisis began on the third day and only got worse. The body had enough of having to eat exactly the same meals every day. That does not change the fact that she managed to survive 5 days for 50 zlotych (300 Kč).
There was nothing pleasant about it, however
Many people have much less for food. The journalist carried out this experiment with a clear aim. She wanted to show that surviving in this way is indeed possible, but no one should be forced to do so. The truth, however, is that many people have to get by each week on a much smaller budget.
