Slovak bryndza halušky and potato pancakes have ended up on the TOP 500 list of the world's dishes

Slovakia experienced a big surprise. Although the majority of Slovaks love bryndza halušky, they never thought they could be among the 500 best culinary experiences in the world. This placement came from the Lonely Planet portal. This portal published a book called Ultimate Eatlis, where it listed the world’s best dishes ever.

The portal focuses on different experiences and publishes everything from travel tips to adventurous experiences. This year the portal decided to publish a ranking of dishes and we can proudly say that as many as 2 tasty dishes from Slovakia appeared in it. The first of these are bryndza halušky, which we already mentioned, and the second are potato pancakes.

Bryndza halušky

This was written about bryndza halušky: “This hearty plate of potato dumplings covered with sharp-tasting sheep cheese and topped with pieces of fried bacon tastes best with dark beer,” they described our national dish in the publication. “Halušky placed at a respectable 225th place.

Slovak potato pancakes

Slovak potato pancakes ranked 488th. The book says that the best fried patties are only the homemade ones, and therefore anyone who knows someone from Slovakia and is invited to their home for potato pancakes should definitely accept the invitation and look forward to excellent homemade food.

1st place

If you’re asking which dish placed first, we know the answer! In first place is the traditional pintxo (pinxto) from Spain, which you can find in small restaurants in the city of San Sebastián. If you’re curious what it is, we attach a photo.

They are small pieces of sandwich served with various spreads, vegetables or meat.

Hungarians and Czechs did not go away empty-handed either. Their specialties also placed in the ranking, specifically Hungarian goulash, langos or stuffed peppers. In the Czech Republic they can also be proud of their traditional trdelník.
