The liver is the largest organ in the human body. Its main function is to eliminate harmful substances in our body.
They also produce substances essential for cell survival
If we do not treat our body well, the liver will be one of the first organs to be affected. Read more about some of the signals the liver sends when it is calling for help.
Are you troubled by pain on the right side, swelling of the legs, or yellow eyes? Be alert!
The liver is located under the diaphragm, with its largest part on the right side: if you feel pain in this area, it may be caused by the liver. When they do not function properly, the liver enlarges, and the increasing pressure manifests as prolonged pain.
Healthy livers produce the protein albumin, which thickens the blood. When the liver does not work well, there is little albumin, the blood becomes very thin and water tends to leave the blood vessels and pour into the tissues. For this reason, the legs and ankles often swell excessively.
Everyone knows that yellowing of the skin and eyes means jaundice. The yellowish color of the skin and the whites of the eyes is caused by the accumulation of bilirubin in the blood, which is a substance formed during the breakdown of old red blood cells carried out by the liver itself.
Also watch for the development of new allergies, fatigue, and unexplained weight gain
Poor liver function can, through faulty handling of toxins, also cause a new allergy, often in the form of itchy skin rashes. The same reason can underlie unusual weight gain without an obvious cause. If you have not changed your diet or lifestyle, have yourself examined by your doctor.
The liver, together with other organs, also participates in the production of energy for the whole body. The liver converts glucose from food into glycogen, which is the „fuel“ of the body. When the liver is ill, energy production is lower and a feeling of persistent fatigue occurs.
How to keep your liver healthy?
- Eat healthily.
- Limit alcohol intake.
- Maintain an optimal body weight
