Salt is worth more than gold, as the fairy tale says. And indeed! Salt is beneficial on several fronts. Besides its traditional use in the kitchen to season our dishes, it is also used in medicine to fight various physical ailments. In Chinese medicine salt has its irreplaceable role. Even in the United States its use is becoming very widespread at the therapeutic level, albeit with a small delay compared to other countries. Italian medicine is also discovering many beneficial uses of salt, excellent for treating many illnesses. Our grandmothers knew this long ago and have used its healing effects since time immemorial. Did you know that by putting a little salt into a sock you can simply solve earaches?

Salt and a sock — you don’t need anything else to heal

A salty sock is a natural and very effective remedy for ear pain. You will need a white sock made of 100% cotton. Colored socks contain substances that are released when exposed to heat. The second necessary ingredient is salt. Use coarse-grained salt so it won’t spill out of the sock.

Just a few simple steps and the pain will be gone

Pour into the sock an amount of salt about the size of your palm. Then tie a knot or two in the sock. Then heat the sock in a clean pan for five minutes. Move the pan often to make sure the salt is distributed evenly. Once the sock is hot enough but can still be held in your hands without risk of burning, remove it from the pan. Let it cool for a few seconds and place it behind the ear. Make sure it also covers the jaw. Keep it warmed for at least 20 minutes.

  • You can use the sock two or three more times; after a while the ear pain should begin to subside.
  • Do not use a microwave oven to heat the sock; its electromagnetic field is harmful to our body.
  • If the problems persist, consult a doctor.
