Which herbs support proper thyroid function?
Lemon balm
This herb reduces the production of thyroid hormones and helps alleviate the symptoms of an overactive thyroid. It is suitable to consume as a tea made from one tablespoon of dried and crushed lemon balm leaves, poured with half a liter of boiling water. After 15 minutes of steeping, simply strain the tea.
Flaxseed
This healthy mini-bomb contains, among other fatty acids, omega-3 fatty acids, which are beneficial for an overactive thyroid. It is best consumed raw, but it can also be crushed, ground or soaked.
Licorice
Due to the hormonal imbalance caused by this disease, such patients suffer from fatigue. This herb helps maintain balance. The main component of licorice, the triterpenoid glycyrrhetinic acid, helps slow the growth of thyroid cancer.
Remedy from the kitchen
To prepare this drink, commonly available ingredients are sufficient, which most households now already have in the kitchen:
- Coconut oil – 1 tablespoon
- Lemon juice – from two pieces
- Ground cinnamon – 1 tablespoon
- Ginger – 1 piece
- Nutmeg – a pinch
- Coconut water – 500 ml
- Orange juice – half a glass
- Cranberry juice (not necessary) – a quarter cup
Bring the water to a boil and add the spices. Boil for 10 minutes and then, while constantly stirring, add all the juices, the coconut oil and the coconut water. Consumption of this drink is recommended every day for two weeks, followed by a one-week break. It doesn’t get any easier than that!
Coconut oil has the ability to restore damaged cell membranes, supports the production of beneficial enzymes and has anti-inflammatory effects. Lemon helps detoxify the body, cinnamon and nutmeg help balance glucose levels. Orange juice provides vitamin C, which supports the functioning of the body’s natural processes. This juice contains a large amount of minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. For the human body suffering from thyroid disease, it is therefore more than suitable.
