Nowadays the padded winter jacket is thriving, affordable, and you can find it in all colors and styles. It can be worn for almost any occasion and will warm you pleasantly even during frosty days. It is very easy to clean and now we will show you how to handle this popular piece of clothing that has become an integral part of winter for many people around the world.
Preparation
In most cases these jackets are made of synthetic material and are lined with some synthetic material. For proper washing you should first read the jacket’s label. Down, wool and cotton are natural materials, the rest are synthetic, so choose an appropriate temperature for washing. In this case you may encounter the jacket composition:
- down,
- wool,
- cotton,
- hollow fiber, dupont, polyester.
Removing stains
If there are stains on the fabric, you should remove them first. Rub them with soapy water or a stain remover and only then wash them. You can use a regular stain remover or mix two teaspoons of ammonia and two teaspoons of liquid detergent in a cup of water. Stir until you obtain a foamy mixture and apply it evenly to the stain. Let it sit for a while and then wash. Grease stains can be removed with salt or cornstarch.
Washing
Coats filled with natural and synthetic materials should be washed separately. Surfaces filled with natural material are recommended to be hand washed. If they are soiled, they should be washed vertically and if they are too dirty, then horizontally. Before washing it is advisable to soak with detergent for 15–30 minutes and then rub it with your hands or a brush. Rinse thoroughly and hang on a hanger.
In the case of a shell filled with synthetic material they can be washed in a washing machine, but at a maximum of 30 degrees, otherwise they will be ruined. If your machine has a gentle cycle, it is recommended to wash and spin at a maximum speed of 400 revolutions per minute. Insert 2–3 tennis balls into the washer and the filling will not migrate from one corner of the jacket to another during washing and will stay nicely in place.
