Bloodthirsty mosquitoes can be a real nuisance. They won’t leave you alone during the day, let alone at night, when they not only suck blood but also buzz unpleasantly around your ear and keep people from sleeping. The situation is even worse on a terrace or with open windows in hot summer weather, when large numbers fly into interiors. How can you get rid of them effectively without using aggressive chemical repellents or overpriced noisy electric devices that don’t always bring the desired peace? Try a method that is effective and, moreover, won’t cost you a fortune!
Annoying buzzing and serious illness
If you hear an unpleasant buzzing, a long night awaits you. It is extremely difficult to kill a mosquito in the dark of night. In addition, its bite can cause serious illness, including viral encephalitis, and in subtropical and tropical areas even malaria or yellow fever. All these diseases can be fatal for children, the elderly, the chronically ill or weakened individuals. Allergic reactions are also unpleasant in children, who tend to get most of the bites and then suffer from itching and skin irritation.
Mosquito trap
There are a wide range of mosquito products on the market. Commercial repellents are not always reliable and often contain a number of chemicals that can cause worsened breathing, shortness of breath or acute allergic reactions. Ultrasonic, light or electric mosquito repellents are not always effective either; they are also too expensive and require a power connection to operate. It is more appropriate to make your own mosquito trap that is effective and costs almost nothing.
What will you need to prepare the mosquito trap?
Never another bite? With this trap it’s easy, and you already have all the items at home! Prepare:
- a two-liter PET bottle,
- 200 ml of hot water,
- 50 g of brown (or white) sugar,
- 1 g of dry yeast.
Preparation
Cut the bottle in half with a knife. Pour the water into the bottom part and add all the ingredients, then stir. Next, insert the top part of the bottle upside down so it resembles a funnel. Secure it with adhesive tape just to be safe. Place it where mosquitoes are most common, ideally by a window, on the terrace or in the kitchen. The sweet smell attracts them, and once they fall into the liquid they will not be able to escape.
