For each jar:

Preparation procedure

  • Wash the cucumbers. Into each preserving jar (they must of course be clean) I put dill at the bottom, a bay leaf, allspice, whole pepper and saccharin.
  • Add the carrot and onion as well. Press the cucumbers into the jars. If you like it spicy, add a hot pepper.
  • Pour in the vinegar and top up with cold water. Seal the jar.
  • Steam-sterilize the cucumbers. From the boiling point cook for only about 5–10 minutes. Just enough for the lid to seal.
  • Remove, turn upside down and let cool. That's all, store with the other preserves.

I love these pickles and therefore this year we don’t make any others. Last year we made only 2 jars as a trial and my husband and I finished them in 1 day. Really excellent and completely simple!
