Preparation procedure

  • Preparing the potatoes and onion: Cut the cooked and peeled potatoes into small cubes and put them into a large bowl. Finely chop the onion, salt and pepper it, and let it sit for a while to soften.
  • Combining the ingredients: Add the onion to the potatoes and pour the sweet-and-sour brine from the pickled cucumbers over them. Use about 100–200 ml according to taste. Mix the mixture thoroughly and let it sit for a while.
  • Adding the other ingredients: Cut the ham salami into thin strips and the pickled cucumbers into small cubes. Add the salami, cucumbers, and peas to the potatoes. Mix everything thoroughly.
  • Seasoning: Add mayonnaise and mustard to the mixture. If needed, season with salt and pepper, or add a little sugar if the mayonnaise seems too tangy.
  • Chilling: Put the finished salad in the fridge for several hours so that all the flavors meld well.

Serving:

Serve the homemade Russian salad on its own with fresh bread or use it as a base for open-faced sandwiches. It’s great for any occasion!

Tip: If you like a spicier flavor, add a little finely chopped sauerkraut or pickled celery to the salad. Enjoy your meal!
