Preparation procedure

  • Preparing the base: Slice the rolls into rounds. Heat the milk with the butter until the butter melts. Remove from the heat and add the sugar, ground poppy seeds, lemon zest and egg yolks. Pour this mixture over the sliced rolls and mix. Fold some of the pitted cherries into the mixture.
  • Baking: Grease a cake pan with butter and place the roll mixture in it. Press it down well and sprinkle the remaining cherries over the surface. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for 15–20 minutes. After baking, let the base cool.
  • Preparing the pudding: Cook a thick pudding from the milk and pudding powder. Let it cool slightly and then pour it over the baked base. Smooth the surface and let it cool completely.
  • Cream layer: Whip the cream until stiff and spread it evenly over the cooled bread pudding. Sprinkle the surface with ground poppy seeds for decoration.
