  • Spreading the mustard: Spread a thin layer of mustard on each slice of bread.
  • Layering the pastrami: Pile the pastrami onto the two bottom slices – the more, the better. In the original, even dozens of slices are used.
  • Cheese and pickles: Add a slice of cheese (if using) and a few sliced pickles.
  • Finishing: Cover with the second slice of bread with mustard.
  • Warming (optional): If you want, you can briefly heat the whole sandwich in a dry pan with a little butter so the cheese melts and the sandwich gets even better flavor.
