Goran’s cubes are an excellent poppy-apple cake that wonderfully combines the sweet taste of apples with the refreshing poppy seeds. This cake is ideal for various occasions, whether it’s a family celebration or just a pleasant afternoon with coffee. With this recipe you will surely impress anyone who loves the combination of fruit and poppy seeds in baking.

Preparation procedure

  • Preparation of the apples and batter: Peel the apples, grate them and drain thoroughly to remove excess juice. Set the juice aside; it will be useful for preparing the filling. In a bowl, mix the eggs, sugar and vanilla sugar and whisk well. Add the grated apples, oil, milk, rum (optional) and flour. Mix well and finally add the ground poppy seeds (or carob). Pour the batter onto a baking sheet greased with butter and dusted with flour. Bake in a preheated oven at 175°C for about 35-40 minutes.
  • Preparation of the filling: Prepare the pudding from the apple juice and the pudding powder. If you don't have enough juice, use water and add 2-3 tablespoons of sugar for a sweeter taste. Cook the pudding according to the instructions on the package.
  • Finishing the cake: Sprinkle the baked cake base with coarsely chopped hazelnuts and pour the prepared pudding over it. Let it cool.
  • Preparation of the glaze: In a saucepan, heat the oil, water, butter, powdered sugar and cooking chocolate. Melt briefly, mix well and pour this glaze over the cake. Let cool and set.
