  • Preheat the oven Set the oven to 180 °C. Prepare a large baking dish and lightly grease it with butter or oil.
  • Prepare the potatoes Peel the potatoes and cut them into thin slices (about 3 mm). For evenness you can use a mandoline.
  • Slice the onion Cut the onion into rings or half-rings. The more onion, the more pronounced and sweeter the flavor of the finished dish.
  • Layering Put half the potatoes on the bottom of the dish, salt, pepper, and sprinkle with paprika. Top with half the onions, continue with the remaining potatoes and season again.
  • Add the sausages Cut the sausages into a "hedgehog" shape (crosswise, but not all the way through) and place them on top of the potatoes.
  • Pour over with cream In a bowl mix the cream with salt and pepper and pour evenly over the entire contents of the baking dish.
  • Baking Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Then uncover, optionally sprinkle with cheese, and bake for another 15–20 minutes until golden.
