Baking homemade bread was a daily routine and tradition for our ancestors. Today this skill is rather rare, but thanks to this simple recipe you can treat yourself to fresh, fragrant and crispy bread straight from your oven. Outdo store-bought bread and enjoy the joy of baking your own!

Preparation procedure

  • Dough preparation: In a bowl, mix the flour, water, yeast and salt. Mix thoroughly until a sticky dough forms. Cover the bowl with a cloth and let the dough rise at room temperature for at least 12 hours (ideally overnight).
  • Preparing for baking: Preheat the oven to 230 °C. Place a lidded baking dish in the oven and let it heat thoroughly (at least 15 minutes).
  • Baking the bread: Sprinkle the risen dough with seeds to taste. Place a sheet of baking paper on the work surface and transfer the dough onto it. Carefully place it into the preheated dish, cover with the lid and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Finishing the bake: After 30 minutes remove the lid and bake the bread for another 15–20 minutes, until it has a golden color and a crispy crust.
  • Serving: Remove the baked bread from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack. Slice and enjoy its perfect flavor.

  • Dough preparation: 10 minutes
  • Dough rising: 12 hours
  • Baking: 45–50 minutes
  • Total: approximately 13 hours

    Serving tips:

    This homemade bread tastes great with butter, homemade jam or hearty soups. If you want to experiment, add herbs, sun-dried tomatoes or garlic to the dough.
