Fries are among the favorite dishes across the globe. This potato treat originating from America is, however, known for being unhealthy. That doesn’t mean we should deny it to ourselves and our children – we can prepare a healthier and no less tasty version.

Fries and health

By the term fries we generally mean small potato sticks that are most often prepared by frying in oil or pan-frying. Given the not very favorable effect of these methods on our body, we can increasingly encounter fries prepared by baking in the oven.

Human health does not particularly benefit from the oils and fats used during frying. More regular consumption of these and similar dishes can contribute to the onset of certain health problems. This is also one of the main reasons why it’s important to ensure that children get used to eating their healthier alternatives. One such are fries without oils and other unhealthy fats.

Tasty and healthy fries – how to make them?

To prepare this healthier version of fries we will need:

  • Potatoes – 5-7 pcs
  • Eggs – 2
  • Salt
  • Any seasoning to taste

Procedure:

Peel the potatoes and cut them into fries about 1 cm thick. Then separate the egg yolks from the whites. Whip the whites together with salt and any seasoning (to taste).

Add this egg-white mixture to the cut potatoes. Mix them carefully – so that the seasoned mixture covers the fries evenly. Then arrange the fries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake the fries in an oven preheated to 200 °C. After 5-7 minutes of baking, take the tray out and remove the parchment paper from under the fries. Then bake the fries until golden.

The finished fries can be served on their own or as a side dish to meat (or other) dishes.
