If we think about any product from pine, the alcoholic distillate called borovička is probably the first thing that comes to mind. However, you can preserve the beautiful scent of the needles and use it to support immunity, against sore throat, cough, or bronchitis. And that in the form of a sweet syrup that is not alcoholic, and therefore is also suitable for children from 1 year. Try the syrup with a wonderful pine scent yourself!

Required ingredients

To prepare pine syrup, prepare these ingredients:

  • 1 kg of young pine needles,
  • 1 kg of sugar.

That’s all. Additionally, you will need a large container that will hold all of this.

Preparation of pine syrup

Remove the needles you collected in the forest from the twigs and weigh them. If you have one kilogram, excellent. If you have less or more, simply adjust the amount of added sugar (the ratio of needles to sugar is always 1:1). Wash the picked needles in clean water and put them on a dry cloth or paper towel. Let them dry, preferably overnight.

Prepare a large container

Put the needles that are no longer damp into a large closable container and mix them thoroughly with the appropriate amount of sugar. Close it and place it on a sunny windowsill. Leave the needles like this for about 40 days, so it’s good to note when you first closed the container. Every day or whenever you pass by, you can shake the container with the needles – but never open it.

Remove the syrup

After 40 days, a liquid should have formed in the container – that is our syrup. Strain it through a fine cloth and seal it in a dark container. A clean cough syrup bottle that you can close is best suited. The syrup can be used as a prevention against colds, coughs, sore throats and also to strengthen immunity.

Dosage

Adults can take the syrup in a dose of 3-4 teaspoons daily, for up to 9 months (preferably before winter). Children from 1 year can use the syrup as a remedy for cough or sore throat.
