Do you want to enjoy fresh rolls in sweet and savory ways, but are you afraid the process will be too laborious? Then try this simple recipe. In a short while you’ll have it ready and you’ll need only three basic ingredients. What are they?
- 240 g flour
- 100 g sour cream
- 125 g butter or margarine
Easy method
After baking you can sprinkle them with powdered sugar if you like sweet, or spread with a mixture of 3 tablespoons of jam and 1 teaspoon of starch. If you plan to fill them, try any jam, nuts, condensed milk or fruit. Since there is no sugar in the dough, you can also choose a savory filling or a topping of cheese or ham. They will also taste great sprinkled with caraway, a little coarse salt and paprika.
Put the flour into a bowl and mix with the sour cream. Grate the butter on a coarse grater and add to the mixture. Work the dough preferably by hand into a smooth ball and cover with cling film. If it sticks too much, add flour. Let it rest about 30 minutes in the cold in the refrigerator. Then take out the dough and roll it out on a floured work surface. Divide it into four parts.
Bake at 190 °C
From each part roll out a round disc about one millimeter thick. Cut these discs into 12 equal triangles, for example with a pizza cutter. Roll each triangle firmly so it doesn’t unravel, and place on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Then let the rolls rest another 15 minutes in the cold. If you don’t do this, they won’t be properly crispy.
Bake the rolls in a preheated oven for about 20 minutes at 190 °C. They should brown nicely on the surface. If you prefer the savory version, sprinkle them while still hot with cheese or seasoning. You can roll the chilled rolls in powdered sugar and enjoy them with a glass of chilled milk or a hot cup of tea.
