Do you like homemade jam? If so, you absolutely must try this unconventional vegetable jam, which goes great with any meat dish as a small side, but you can also enjoy it classically on bread or with a roll. The recipe is very simple, cheap, and you don’t need anything complicated to make it. What does it consist of and how should you proceed when making it?
What will you need?
The good news and a major advantage of this recipe is the fact that it is very simple, cheap, and you make a large amount of jam at once that will last you a very long time. You won’t have to repeat the process often and you can enjoy the unique vegetable flavor whenever you want. Let’s look at what you’ll need to make this amazing homemade jam:
- 3 kg of peppers
- 2 kg of cabbage
- 1 kg of onions,
- 1 kg of cucumbers
- 2 dl of 20% vinegar
- salt,
- 1 glass of wine
- 1 teaspoon of sodium benzoate,
- 750 g of sugar.
Method of preparation
It’s very simple. Mix all the ingredients, let them sit for a while, and then put them into small buckets. You don’t need to add water. Just don’t pour out the juice that will form on its own. How long will it last? You’ll be surprised, but this simple mixture should last a very long time. If you opt for glass jars instead of plastic buckets, the prepared product will be ready to eat throughout the winter. Always check before eating, however, to make sure the food hasn’t gone bad.
The great thing is that the cabbage doesn’t turn brown. It softens in the wine, which at the same time acts as a preservative, together with the vinegar. If you want the mix only with cucumbers, you can make them with just vinegar, salt, water, sugar, wine and sodium benzoate. You don’t have to measure anything extremely precisely; you should mainly follow your own taste, because some will want the mix sweeter, others more sour. Enjoy your meal and good luck making this unique vegetable jam.
