Nothing lasts forever. Unfortunately, that applies doubly to our appliances and electronic helpers in the household. If you know how to take care of them, however, you will extend their lifespan by quite a few years. That way you won’t have to buy a new one every few years when it breaks down again after the warranty. For example, the iron — sooner or later it will start to clog with limescale and other dirt.
Save your old iron and save on a new one
If your iron has stopped steaming properly and instead has begun to „spit“ moist chunks and soil your laundry, we have good news for you. You don’t have to throw it away. Try cleaning it and save it from the bin. We’ll show you how to clean such an iron from the inside simply and quickly from the comfort of your home. You will need:
- lemon juice
- hot water
- a toothbrush
How to do it? First you must prepare the cleaning mixture. Take the lemon juice and mix it s hot water. Two tablespoons of lemon juice go into half a liter of water. Stir the mixture well and let it stand for a few minutes so the juice dissolves properly in the water. And that’s it! Turn the iron on and let it heat up. Once it’s hot, unplug it and fill it with the prepared mixture. Usually about 300ml of liquid fits into the iron. Plug the iron back in and let it heat to the maximum and leave it like that.
Careful not to scald yourself!
Take a container with water. Hold the iron over it and alternately press the steam and water spray buttons. An unpleasant substance will begin to flow out of the iron. Rinse the soleplate of the iron under cold water and remove the mass with the brush. Repeat the procedure until the dirt stops coming out.
If you exhaust the liquid inside, you can refill it and repeat the whole process until the water coming out of the iron is clear. Then clean the iron from the cleaning mixture in the same way, but use normal water without any additives.
