This is one of those proper old wives’ tips. A tried trick that surprisingly works well, but which few people know or use in everyday life. Even though it works so well! If you wash your laundry together with this natural agent, you are guaranteed to get fresh, sweet-smelling and soft laundry out of the washing machine!
Simple, cheap and multifunctional
The great thing about this tip is that it not only cleans your laundry, but also your washing machine!
Vinegar
To start: pour your regular detergent into the washer and add a good dose of vinegar. This will strengthen the effectiveness of the regular detergent. Need something stronger? Let the clothes soak thoroughly in a mixture of 125 milliliters of vinegar and water. And voilà: enjoy clean laundry without the smell of vinegar!
1. Sweat and deodorant stains
It’s such a shame when you have to throw clothes away after a while because colored stains form around the armpits that you can’t remove with regular detergent. Vinegar can handle that!
2. Fabric softener
Don’t forget to pour a little white vinegar into your washing machine’s fabric softener dispenser. Thanks to it your laundry will be unbelievably soft and it is not harmful to the environment.
3. Color preservation
Before putting clothes in the washer, pour about 125 milliliters of vinegar over them. It helps prevent color fading and removes excess soap from the fabric.
4. Stubborn stains
Fill a bucket with water and add a cup of vinegar. Let clothing with stubborn stains soak for about an hour. Then put it into the regular wash cycle.
5. Static-charged clothing
Wool sweaters and fleece blankets are lovely, but they often become statically charged. Using vinegar when washing them will get rid of the problem in an instant. Try it!
6. Soap scum and other residues
Especially if you prefer powder over liquid detergent, it can happen that soap suds or other residues remain on your clothes after washing. This can lead to significant irritation for sensitive skin. Adding 125 milliliters of vinegar during the regular wash cycle will help get rid of these irritations!
7. Greasiness
Swimsuits, washcloths and towels often start to get “greasy” after a while. Just soak them in a tub with 60 milliliters of vinegar and water and then throw them in the washing machine. They will come out bright and clean!
8. Cigarette smell
Do you smoke indoors? Or did you visit a place where others smoked inside? That will make your clothes smell unpleasant, especially if not treated! White vinegar neutralizes cigarette odor! This applies to curtains too!
9. Pet hair
Even if you love your furry friend, the hair it leaves behind is a whole different story… It’s always tricky when your clothes are covered in hard-to-remove pet hair. The trick, which you probably suspect, is to wash the clothing in the machine and add a little vinegar. Let it dry and once it does, you won’t have trouble simply shaking the hair out.
