Do you often wonder what to prepare for your family for dinner? The same repeatedly used recipes soon become boring for everyone. Sometimes it can be very exhausting, after a whole day of work and obligations, to still come up with culinary delights. That is why we bring you a tip for a tasty dish made from readily available and inexpensive ingredients.

Ingredients needed

For preparing the recipe we will need these basic ingredients ‒ puff pastry, 400 grams of meat, an onion, 150 grams of pickled cucumbers, eggs and cheese for sprinkling. The choice of meat is up to you, depending on what you like at home. You can use, for example:

  • Chicken or turkey breasts
  • Beef suitable for goulash
  • Pork neck

Preparation

First we will boil the potatoes in lightly salted water. When they are soft, we drain them and mash them thoroughly into a purée. The aim is to achieve a consistency as close as possible to mashed potatoes. Slice the onion lengthwise into rings and cut the meat into thin strips. Fry them together in a pan over high heat until the onion turns golden and the meat is seared. Season the fried mixture with salt and pepper to taste. While the meat cools, cut the pickles into small cubes.

Now comes the more fun part of cooking. We will create meat rolls resembling little boats. Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into smaller rectangles. In the center of each rectangle place a little potato first, then the meat, and finally the pickle. Make one cut on each edge of the pastry. Fold both edges over the resulting pile and shape it into a roll. A properly wrapped roll should have a large hole in the middle, which you generously fill with cheese at the end.

Baked to golden

Prepare baking paper on a baking tray. Arrange the rolls evenly next to each other and brush them with beaten egg. Preheat the oven to 180 °C and only put the rolls in once it is fully heated. Bake for 25 minutes, until the pastry turns golden and starts to smell. Let the baked boats cool and serve them to hungry diners. You will see that they will be gobbled up!
