If you are going to start growing strawberries or any plants and are considering using popular planting containers or raised beds, try making your own original one. You will only need an old pallet. Not only will it look unique, but plants will thrive in it. See how to do it.

To make it you only need one pallet

Pallets are a great solution in many ways. You can usually get them at a favorable price and there are no limits to how you can use them. Besides, they are made of wood, so they are environmentally friendly. They are also great for growing in the garden or on the balcony if you live in an apartment. You can create this small garden from a single pallet. With her guide to growing strawberries, Tonya from Lovely Greens has inspired many people around the world. Follow her instructions and try this proven method yourself.

You assemble it from 3 parts

The basis of the entire container will be three identical parts into which we must cut the pallet. Then carefully remove the smaller slats on the back of the pallet from all three parts. We will use the removed pieces later, so take care with their gentle separation—definitely do not break or cut them off. Don’t forget to carefully check for any protruding nails and remove them.

Once you are done, assemble the three main parts together. This will form the bottom and the long side walls. From the material left over after dismantling the boards you will make the shorter side walls. Use long nails or wood screws to join all the parts. If you like, you can leave the pallet natural or sand it and paint it your favorite color.

Prop the container up on legs

Also don’t forget the legs on the underside of the finished container. This will allow air to flow from below. You will make them again from the leftover and previously removed parts of the pallet. Thanks to sufficient airflow and the possibility for excess water to drain away, you will prevent possible mold. To prevent soil from falling through the holes, it’s good to use straw. And you’re done. A pallet container prepared like this is ready for growing strawberries or vegetables, herbs, and even ornamental flowers.

If you thought you needed a large space and a garden bed to grow, then you are mistaken. One pallet is enough for you and an original container made from it. This way you can comfortably grow your favorite produce even on a smaller balcony.
