You’ve probably already heard about the many health benefits of ginger in treating various diseases and health problems.
It works excellently to support digestion, the production of digestive juices, and detoxification of the body. However, there are cases when people should avoid consuming this root vegetable.
And it’s precisely about these few cases that we’ll talk more about today.
If you belong to people affected by any of the following situations, then refrain from consuming ginger as a precaution until the condition persists.
1. Blood clotting disorders
Ginger improves blood circulation and is therefore beneficial for conditions such as obesity, diabetes, diseases of narrowed arteries, or Raynaud’s syndrome.
However, in the case of hemophilia (a disorder where the blood has lost the ability to clot), ginger can worsen the condition.
This is because it neutralizes the effects of medications prescribed for hemophilia.
2. Use of certain medications
Avoid consuming ginger if you are taking medication for diabetes or high blood pressure.
When ginger is combined with insulin, beta-blockers, or anticoagulant medications, it can affect their effects.
This is because active substances found in ginger stimulate blood thinning and lower blood pressure.
3. Pregnancy
Ginger is rich in substances that support digestion and muscle health. However, during pregnancy it can lead to premature contractions and preterm labor.
Therefore, its consumption is prohibited during the last trimester, even though it can relieve morning sickness.
It is also good to know that consuming ginger interferes with the absorption of iron and some fat-soluble vitamins from the diet.
4. Low body weight
Ginger is high in fiber and substances that increase stomach pH and the production of digestive enzymes in the pancreas.
This then leads to an accelerated metabolism and fat burning while suppressing the appetite.
If a person has low weight, consuming ginger could lead to further weight loss, muscle weakening, increased hair loss, or irregular menstruation.
What to consume instead of ginger
If you belong to any of the above 4 groups, you can replace ginger with other foods.
For this purpose, the most suitable are peppers, chili peppers, hot peppers (feferonky), or cayenne pepper.
The effect of hot peppers containing the compound capsaicin is similar to ginger’s, but without some of its risks.
You can add peppers to dishes or even to juices or lemonades, thus creating amazing detoxifying drinks.
