Have you also always been troubled after washing the dishes by the question of what to do with a wet dish sponge so that it can dry naturally? Most of us always place it washed and wrung beside the sink. However it doesn’t dry perfectly there, bacteria multiply in it and despite all efforts this place simply is not an ideal spot. Maybe we have found the answer to your question of how to store the sponge in accordance with high hygiene standards. Don’t believe it? Read on!

The solution is ingeniously simple: just use scissors

A few days ago I went to visit my friend and caught her doing an unusual thing. She was cutting a dish sponge with scissors. At first I thought she was probably preparing some kind of craft project for her children. When my friend saw me looking at her in bewilderment, she laughed and said she wasn’t preparing anything for the children, she was just making her life a little easier. When she saw that I still had no idea what she was talking about, she decided to reveal her secret to me. Since then I have been using my friend’s trick and I decided to share it with you.

How to modify the dish sponge so it will never lie beside the sink again

So what exactly did my friend do with the sponge? It was actually just three simple steps:

  • she took a dish sponge and a pair of scissors,
  • on the middle of the longer side of the sponge she made one cut that ran straight to its center,
  • in the center of the sponge she cut out a small hole.

You can easily place the sponge prepared this way on the sink faucet. Excess water will drip down into the sink and will not collect around the sponge laid on the counter., as happens even with the most perfectly wrung sponge. This method of storage is much more hygienic. Many of my friends who have ever visited me at home were at first surprised by this original solution, but when I thoroughly explained to them how much more convenient this way of storing is, they began to use it in their own households as well.
