The most common cause of a blocked nose is a cold. Such a problem is temporary and has an easy solution. A different situation, however, occurs when your nose is blocked for a long time, you have problems with sleep, breathing, or you have noticed a loss of sensitivity to smells or tastes. Once the problem persists for more than two months, it needs to be addressed.
Sneezing
Do you sneeze when you are surrounded by animal hair or when your partner puts on perfume? Similar triggers can also be dust or other impurities. Even if the problems seem negligible, it may be allergic rhinitis, whose symptoms can worsen over time. Experts say that as many as 45 % of people suffer from such rhinitis and some still do not know it. The condition can be treated with sprays or tablets. However, it requires an examination by a doctor.
Sprays and drops don’t work
The nose may be damaged from birth or as a result of injury. Then some nasal drops or sprays do not work properly. In such a situation, surgery is the best solution for your health. It is also common that one of the nostrils works without a problem and you cannot breathe through the other. When the nose is damaged or, for example, the tonsils are swollen, loud snoring can appear even in children.
Constant nose blowing
By blowing your nose the body normally gets rid of mucus when you have a cold. However, if you blow your nose and get nothing out, something is wrong. As soon as you notice that you constantly feel the urge to blow your nose but do not expel any mucus, it is better to visit your doctor. If you ignore this complication, your nose can become very sensitive.
Pain
If you do not treat a long-term blocked nose, there is a risk that this condition will extend for a very long time and will then be much more difficult to treat. Nevertheless, pain above the nose, a feeling of chill and symptoms similar to the flu or a cold often appear. The problem can worsen and create increasing danger.
