Thanks to this trick you will be able to enjoy fresh cucumbers, tomatoes or even seasonal fruit such as apples, peaches, apricots or plums throughout the year and not just wait for the period when they are available in stores.

The most important thing is to get quality cucumbers, preferably home-grown

If you have the option to get fresh cucumbers from home growing, that’s the best choice. If you buy them in a shop, pay careful attention to make sure they are as high-quality as possible. When it comes to cucumbers, take only those fruits that are firm and show no signs of damage.

At home wash them thoroughly, and let the water drain off them. The cucumbers must be completely dry for the trick to work. So wash them carefully but use little water. This will prevent moisture from accumulating inside the jar into which you will place the cucumbers. Find a larger container, sterilize it and place the cucumbers in it so that they are stacked on top of each other. Leave some free space under the lid.

Place a lit candle among the cucumbers

Surely you will find a candle at home, a completely ordinary one. Do not use scented candles, they could affect the taste of the cucumbers and other vegetables you will store. Push the candle between the cucumbers so that it holds well, and light it. Let the candle burn for about 10 minutes in the jar without a lid.

This is because the oxygen, which is in the jar, will gradually burn away. Then screw the lid onto the jar. You have to be very careful, because the container must be closed so that the candle does not go out. It must keep burning even when the jar is closed. The candle should burn for several dozen seconds after the jar uses up all the oxygen. Store the prepared cucumbers or other vegetables in a cool, dark place. If you like fresh fruit, you can use this candle trick for that too. Just be careful that the candle holds well between the pieces of fruit and that it continues to burn after sealing the container.
