If you share the opinion of many Czechs that a dumpling always belongs with a sauce and you just don’t have time to make dumplings, you don’t have to buy them. Homemade dumplings are much tastier and free of added ingredients that don’t need to be there. Dumplings are not exactly a diet food, but homemade ones are definitely healthier. You don’t have to make bread dumplings according to complicated and time-consuming recipes. Try this mug version, which you will surely love.

Ingredients needed

To prepare these homemade bread dumplings you’ll only need a few common ingredients. There’s nothing complicated about making the dumplings and you’ll definitely enjoy them much more than store-bought ones. There’s nothing better than fresh homemade. These dumplings will be ready much faster because this recipe doesn’t use yeast. Simply put, these dumplings do not rise. Besides the ingredients listed below, have ready 4 mugs with a capacity of 250 ml and a little fat to grease them before adding the batter. For the bread dumplings you will need:

  • 4 rolls
  • 200 ml semi-skimmed milk
  • 4 whole eggs
  • 8 tablespoons of flour
  • 1 teaspoon of salt

Preparation method

First, cut the rolls into smaller cubes and pour the milk over them. Now separate the yolks from the whites. Pour the yolks into the milk with the rolls and set the whites aside. You will beat them into stiff peaks. Thoroughly mix the ingredients soaked in milk and let them rest. Now it’s time for the egg whites, which you should beat into a meringue. Beat the whites really well; they should be stiff and firm so that beautiful dumplings form. Then simply fold this meringue slowly and carefully into the yolk mixture.

Pour the batter evenly into the greased mugs and prepare a water bath on the stove in which you will place the mugs with the batter, cover with a lid and start cooking. Cook the dumplings the whole time under the lid. They will be ready in about 25 minutes; then just carefully turn them out and slice.
