Small berries hide a range of vitamins and minerals beneficial for health. Do you like red and white? But you should know one important thing – the black ones are the healthiest. And not only currants, but berries in general. Their effects should especially be known by people over 50, who are most at risk of developing serious diseases and the gradual weakening of mental abilities.

What does black currant treat?

Black currant is very rich in vitamin C in its purest form. In addition, they are a great source of vitamin E, B vitamins and iron. Just 100 g of the fruit helps with diarrhea and relieves digestive problems. They have a diuretic effect on the body and are often used in the treatment of urinary tract inflammations. Thanks to rutin and citrin, the dark berries are suitable for people with varicose veins. Drink dried fruit and tea made from the leaves for sore throat or fever.

A miracle for our body that people over 50 should especially know about

Black currant is very important in the prevention of cancer in old age and is a guardian of cardiovascular health. It keeps blood vessels elastic and improves their patency.

After 50, mental abilities gradually decline and there is also a risk of the onset of dementia or other illnesses. Black currant also protects you from that. Elderly people are strongly advised to eat large amounts of fresh black currants.

Black currant against diabetes

The fruits of black currant are an absolute number one in the count of rare vitamins and minerals. No other berries compare with them in this. Black currant prevents diabetes and helps maintain a stable blood sugar level.

Kidney stones and other diseases

Black currant can help in the treatment of chronic bronchial and upper respiratory tract diseases. Overall, they strengthen immunity. The berries and leaves of black currant help fight kidney stones, regenerate the liver and respiratory tract, and help prevent atherosclerosis.

Black currant decoctions have anti-inflammatory and disinfectant effects; if you squeeze juice from the berries, it is very effective in the treatment of angina pectoris.

Anyone who regularly consumes black currant fruits does not need to worry about infectious diseases at all.

It has been found that all the useful properties of black currant are perfectly preserved even when the fruit is processed (such as jam, compotes, dried). If you regularly consume products made from black currant, you fight anemia, hypertension and stomach ulcers.

You should also consume them in case of problems with varicose veins, because they improve their patency.

Currant can act as a mild laxative. If you have a calcium deficiency in the body, you will find it in black currant berries. Currant can be black or red, white or golden. All these different varieties are a single species of shrub and their medicinal functions are roughly the same.

They heal and you don’t even have to consume them: this is what currant leaves can do

If rashes appear on your skin, itching starts for no apparent reason and you don’t know what to do – boil currant leaves beforehand and then wash your face with the decoction or add it to a bath. Do this several times to get rid of itching and skin rashes. But that’s not all:

I use a currant dressing for aching knees. Boil about 30 leaves of black currant in 500 ml of water and let it steep for 15 minutes covered with a lid. I soaked a cloth in the decoction, placed the leaves on it, folded them and applied a hot compress to the knee. I cover with plastic wrap and bandage with a warm towel. Leave the compress on overnight and repeat as needed.
