We all know that a cough or a cold are not serious illnesses. However, if we ignore them and do not treat them adequately, they can turn into more dangerous and unpleasant diseases. The worst is usually a dry cough, because it most hinders normal functioning or concentrating on anything.
Today we will show you one extra-effective home remedy that effectively fights coughs, a runny nose and even flu viruses. It will help you not only as prevention, but also speed up treatment if you are already ill, and moreover significantly strengthen your immunity.
Remedy for Cough, Runny Nose and Flu
Our homemade remedy consists of three miraculous ingredients – onion, honey and lemon juice.
- Onion has strong anti-inflammatory effects. It also acts as a natural antibiotic and reduces the viscosity of mucus, thereby promoting its movement and expectoration.
- Honey is a strong antifungal (against molds), antibacterial and antiviral agent. In addition, it soothes throat irritation, relieves pain and speeds up healing.
- Lemon supports the body’s natural defenses and is a rich source of vitamin C. It excellently reduces mucus production and lessens the severity of a runny nose or the flu.
Ingredients
To make this homemade remedy you will need the following ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- Fresh juice from 1 lemon
- 1.5 glasses of water (3 dcl)
- 1 onion
Instructions
- First bring the water to a boil and add the chopped onion. Simmer on low heat under a lid for 10 to 15 minutes.
- After cooking, turn off the heat, remove the lid and let it cool for 10 minutes.
- Strain the liquid, add the lemon juice and honey, and mix everything well.
- Your homemade remedy is ready!
Note
Cooking does destroy some vitamins in the onion, but the purpose of cooking is to extract anti-inflammatory and mucus-thinning substances into the water. You will get vitamins mainly from the lemon. An alternative is to juice the onion if you have a juicer at home. This preserves all of its beneficial substances.
Want to improve and strengthen this recipe further? Add pieces of chopped ginger to the boiling water with the onion. Alternatively, you can juice about a 2 cm piece of ginger along with the onion. Use a juicer or grate the ginger and squeeze it through cloth or gauze. If using unprocessed ginger, add about 2 dcl of clean water to the juice mixture to dilute it.
Usage
Take this miraculous remedy 2 to 3 times a day until all unpleasant symptoms of the illness disappear. You will be truly pleasantly surprised by the results.
